Staff Selection Commission (SSC), a premier central government recruitment body under the Ministry of Personnel, Public Grievances & Pensions, has officially released the Stenographer Grade ‘C’ & ‘D’ Examination 2026 Notification.
This is an excellent opportunity for candidates with stenography skills to secure a prestigious government job across various Ministries, Departments, and Organizations of the Government of India. Approximately 731 vacancies have been tentatively announced for Stenographer Grade ‘C’ (Group B, Non-Gazetted) and Stenographer Grade ‘D’ (Group C) posts. Eligibility Criteria — SSC Stenographer Grade C & D 2026
- Candidates must have passed 12th Standard or equivalent examination from a recognized Board or University on or before 01.08.2026
- Degrees/diplomas through Open and Distance Learning mode are accepted only if approved by the Distance Education Bureau, UGC
- Candidates whose results were declared on or before the cut-off date and who have been declared passed will also be considered eligible

- Date of Birth as filled in the application form must match the Matriculation/Secondary Certificate
- The crucial date for age reckoning is fixed as 01.08.2026

- Questions will be Objective Type Multiple Choice only, set in both English and Hindi
- Negative marking of 0.25 marks for each wrong answer

- Marks scored in multi-shift exams will be normalized as per the Commission’s published procedure
- No re-evaluation/re-checking of scores at any stage

- Dictation will be given for 10 minutes; candidates must transcribe on computer
- Skill Test is mandatory but qualifying in nature — it does not count towards merit
- Candidates who opt for Hindi medium Skill Test must learn English Stenography after appointment, and vice versa
- Skill Test will be held at Commission’s Regional Offices or other designated centres

Tie-Breaking Rules
In case two or more candidates score equal aggregate marks in the Computer Based Examination, the tie is resolved by applying the following methods in order:

- In addition to basic pay, selected candidates will be eligible for Dearness Allowance (DA), House Rent Allowance (HRA), Transport Allowance (TA), and other admissible central government allowances as per rules
- All posts carry All India Service Liability (AISL) — candidates may be posted anywhere in India
- Candidates placed on probation for two years from the date of joining, during which they must complete required training or pass prescribed examinations

| Step 1: Generate One-Time Registration (OTR) Visit https://ssc.gov.in and click on “Login or Register.” Complete the One-Time Registration by providing personal details, password, additional details, and declaration.
