Eligibility Criteria — SSC Stenographer Grade C & D 2026

⇒ Nationality: Indian Citizens, Subjects of Nepal or Bhutan, or Persons of Indian Origin from specified countries (with eligibility certificate from Government of India where required)
⇒ Educational Qualification:

  • Candidates must have passed 12th Standard or equivalent examination from a recognized Board or University on or before 01.08.2026
  • Degrees/diplomas through Open and Distance Learning mode are accepted only if approved by the Distance Education Bureau, UGC
  • Candidates whose results were declared on or before the cut-off date and who have been declared passed will also be considered eligible

⇒ Stenography Skill (Mandatory):

  • Only candidates who have skills in stenography are eligible to apply

  • Dictation will be given for 10 minutes; candidates must transcribe on computer

Tie-Breaking Rules

In case two or more candidates score equal aggregate marks in the Computer Based Examination, the tie is resolved by applying the following methods in order:

  1. Marks in Part III (English Language and Comprehension)
  2. Marks in Part II (General Awareness)
  3. Date of Birth — older candidate is ranked higher
  4. Alphabetical order of the candidates’ names

How to Apply — Step-by-Step Guide

Step 1: Generate One-Time Registration (OTR)
Visit https://ssc.gov.in and click on “Login or Register.” Complete the One-Time Registration by providing personal details, password, additional details, and declaration. Note your Registration Number. The OTR generated on the new website is valid for all future examinations on the same portal.

Step 2: Complete Aadhaar-Based Authentication (Recommended)
Opt for Aadhaar-based authentication to avoid rejection on grounds of photograph or signature quality, and to avoid carrying printed ID cards at the examination centre.

Step 3: Capture Live Photograph
You do not need a pre-existing photograph. The application module will prompt you to capture a live photo using your webcam or mobile camera. Ensure a plain background, good lighting, and that your face is fully visible — no cap, mask, or spectacles.

Step 4: Upload Scanned Signature
Upload your scanned signature in JPEG/JPG format (10–20 KB). Dimensions should be approximately 6.0 cm (width) × 2.0 cm (height). Blurred or miniature signatures will result in rejection.

Step 5: Fill Online Application Form
Log in using your Registration Number and password. Click “Apply” for Stenographer Grade ‘C’ & ‘D’ Examination 2026. Step 10: Save Confirmation
